Real Madrid defender Pepe has refused to write off his side’s chances of retaining their Spanish league title, despite an appalling start to the season.

Jose Mourinho’s men have lost two of their first four league games, taking only four points from their La Liga matches and trailing bitter rivals Barcelona by eight points already.

Real Madrid went down to a tame 1-0 loss at Sevilla on Saturday night, a game Pepe played in.

Meanwhile Barcelona were winning 4-1 at Getafe and underlining the size of the task Real Madrid will face to retain La Liga.

But Pepe is not in any mood to give up and has warned the Blaugrana about feeling overly confident at this early stage.

"We will fight until the end", said the Portuguese defender.

"It is difficult to make up eight points, but we have to honour the shirt we wear.

"The team have worked so hard, we are united and we will fight to win."

Real Madrid next switch their attention from La Liga duty to the Champions League, where a match against Manchester City is on the menu.
