Lucho Gonzalez believes that it was the right time for Hulk to leave FC Porto and added that the Brazilian striker wanted to leave the Estadio do Dragao.

The Argentine midfielder, who is Porto’s captain, returned to his former club in the 2012 January transfer window, moving back to Portugal from French side Marseille.

He had the pleasure of playing with Hulk and watching the talented Brazil international at close quarters.

The chance to do that again this season has gone though after Hulk was sold to Russian Premier League champions Zenit St. Petersburg.

Hulk had been linked with a number of clubs over the summer, including Anzhi Makhachkala, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain – and Lucho believes the time had come for a parting of the ways.

"Hulk is a great player who gave so much to this club", the 31-year-old told Portuguese daily A Bola.

"He wanted to leave and this was a good opportunity for him and for the club.

"I wish him all the best for his new adventure."
