Manchester City striker John Guidetti is hoping for a change of scenery in the January transfer window if he does not receive regular playing time with the English champions.

Guidetti spent last season on loan at Dutch giants Feyenoord and was a resounding success in the Eredivisie, scoring 20 goals in 23 top flight games.

Feyenoord wanted to keep Guidetti at De Kuip, but financially a deal proved impossible to do and, while there was also interest from a whole host of other clubs in the Swede, such as Galatasaray and Lazio, he ended up staying put in Manchester when the summer transfer window closed.

First team football, to continue his development, has always been Guidetti’s priority and he has stressed that remains the case.

"I have always said that my goal is to play football", Guidetti told Swedish daily Sport Bladet.

"Manchester City said I am a good player and I am part of the club for this season.

"However, I must play in order to grow.

"I think that in January there will be a solution for me."

It remains to be seen just how many first team opportunities Guidetti will receive at Eastlands before the January transfer window opens, with Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko all blocking his path to a starting role.

And so, the striker may conclude it is better he seeks minutes on the pitch elsewhere.
