Turkish giants Galatasaray remain desperate to sign Kaka from Real Madrid, but must reach the Round of 16 in the Champions League to keep the dream alive.

Galatasaray coach Fatih Terim admitted in the summer that he would love to welcome the former AC Milan star to the Turk Telekom Arena, however Real Madrid’s insistence on a high fee for the 30-year-old scuppered the club’s hopes; Milan too wanted to sign Kaka, but were also put off by Los Blancos demanding a fee.

relatedNewsStory The start of the season has not changed Kaka’s situation at the Berbabeu though and he remains firmly out of the first team picture, with Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil both ahead in the pecking order for the midfielder’s preferred role.

Such a plight is not tolerable for Kaka, who will surely look to the exit door once again when the January transfer window opens, should he still be kicking his heels under Jose Mourinho.

And Galatasaray will once again be interested – if they have progressed in the Champions League.

"If we get through the group stage in the Champions League, we’ll try to put the icing on the cake", said Galatasaray president Unal Aysal.

"Kaka could join us – though I can’t guarantee it", he added.

"I would love to see him in our club’s shirt."

Galatasaray are in a group with Braga, Cluj and Manchester United in the Champions League.

The club lost their opening group stage clash, 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
