AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri breathed a giant sigh of relief last night after his side ended a nightmare Serie A run.

The Rossoneri had failed to win for three games, with two of those being defeats and the other a tepid 0-0 draw at home in the Champions League against Belgian giants Anderlecht.

relatedNewsStory Alarm bells were ringing around the San Siro and, having already lost this season at home in Serie A to Sampdoria and lowly Atalanta, the pressure was on for Milan to put Cagliari to the sword.

And Allegri’s side managed to do just that.

Stephan El Shaarawy opened the scoring in the 15th minute, sending Milan in 1-0 ahead at half time, before Cagliari lost captain Daniele Conti to a red card midway through the second half.

El Shaarawy then added a second for Milan in the 82nd minute to make sure of all three points.

Elsewhere in Serie A, Roma were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria, while Inter beat Chievo 2-0 away.

At Lazio, coach Vladimir Petkovic’s dream start is well and truly over after his side visited Napoli and lost 3-0, while Palermo’s nightmare run continued with a 1-0 defeat at relegation battlers Pescara.
