The race for Toulouse midfielder Moussa Sissoko is heating up, with English duo Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, along with French sides Lyon and Lille, all holding a serious interest in the 23-year-old, according to Le 10 Sport.

Sissoko’s contract with Toulouse expires at the end of the season and the Ligue 1 outfit are pushing to extend that before January.

relatedNewsStory The opening of the January transfer window also signals the time that Sissoko can enter into a pre-contractual agreement with another club, with the aim of then signing permanently on a free transfer on 1st July, 2013.

This is something Les Pitchounes are keen to avoid, but they will have to make a very persuasive case given the clubs that are monitoring the France international.

Ready to offer Sissoko the chance to stay in Ligue 1 but to jump to a ship with a chance of silverware are Lyon and Lille.

Lyon, who have been forced to cut their budget to fund the building of a new stadium and cope with missing out on this season’s Champions League, spy the opportunity to add a quality midfielder enforcer for free, while Lille want to challenge for the title they last held in 2011.

The 23-year-old will have options across the English channel however, with Liverpool, who too have been operating under a reduced budget, having regularly kept tabs on him, well before new manager Brendan Rodgers arrived in the job.

Tottenham could also offer Sissoko a home, having monitored the Toulouse youth product, and the prospect of moving to London, a path recently trodden by another proven Ligue 1 performer in goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, could be an attractive one.

Sissoko is believed to prefer a switch to the Premier League, but could be persuaded to remain in France if the offer were right.

Toulouse meanwhile will hope to hold onto the 23-year-old though, should their efforts fail, could look to sell him for a knockdown fee when the winter window swings open.
