We all like to dabble in a little football betting from time to time, and this weekend offers some interesting matches to get stuck into. I have been casting my eyes over the English football fixture list, and have come up with a treble that may prove profitable, as well as a few other outsiders who might spring a surprise. Whether you choose to follow or not, these are my tips for this weekend’s matches: 


Premier League – Everton to win at home to Southampton (1.44)

Southampton managed an excellent 4-1 win against a pretty hapless Aston Villa side last weekend to record their first points of the campaign so far. A visit to Everton is a different prospect, however. In recent seasons, the Toffees have been the slowest of slow starters, but this time around they’ve done the opposite. A 3-0 hammering of Swansea last weekend – they could have scored ten – was more than impressive, and I expect them to make light work of the Saints’ rather shaky defence on Saturday.


Championship – Barnsley to win at home to Ipswich Town (2.40)

September hasn’t been a kind month for Ipswich Town, and three league defeats on the trot have left the Tractor Boys in a muddy rut close to the bottom of the table. One win from seven league games is hardly impressive form, and manager Paul Jewell appears to be under fire already. Barnsley had one of those “what the?” results last weekend, a 5-0 hammering of Birmingham City, with striker Craig Davies picking up four goals. I think they will continue their good form and beat Ipswich with ease on Saturday.


Championship – Hull City to win at home to Peterborough United (1.45)

This should be a foregone conclusion – Hull have won three out of three at home and Peterborough have lost three out of three away. Darren Ferguson’s side have conceded sixteen goals in eight league games so far, and a clean sheet on Saturday looks pretty unlikely. Hull were beaten at Leicester last Sunday in a lacklustre display, but it has to be said that Peterborough are looking like everyone’s whipping boy at the moment.
