Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger believes that Borussia Dortmund must be thanked for helping the Bavarians to reach new levels.

Dortmund have won the last two Bundesliga titles, hurting Bayern Munich’s pride and forcing the Allianz Arena outfit to pull out all the stops this season.

relatedNewsStory And Jupp Heynckes’ men have started the campaign in blistering form, winning all six of their league matches so far, scoring 19 goals and conceding only two. The club’s latest win came yesterday, with a 2-0 victory over Werder Bremen away from home.

Schweinsteiger appreciates that his side are playing superb football and has given Dortmund credit for making them raise their game.

"If they had not performed so strongly, we may not have been able to do this well", said the midfielder.

"To be crowned Bundesliga champions is our main goal", he added, before insisting that winning the Champions League, a competition Bayern Munich lost in the final of last season, is possible too.

"We can achieve much more.

"To win the Champions League is difficult, but after Barcelona there are no exceptional teams."

The Bavarians are in action in the Champions League on Tuesday evening, with a trip to BATE Borisov on the agenda.
