Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has saluted striker Fernando Torres after his goalscoring display in the club’s 2-1 win over Arsenal yesterday.

Torres scored the first of Chelsea’s goals in the victory, with the second added by his fellow Spaniard Juan Mata, who floated a free kick into the Arsenal goal.

relatedNewsStory The win not only kept Chelsea on top of the Premier League table, but it also continued Torres’ good form this season and Di Matteo is happy with the former Liverpool man’s all round game.

"Torres was excellent today. He scored a great goal and an important goal and his all-round play was excellent", the Blues boss said to his club’s official site after the match.

"He is a team player, he really works hard and chases the defenders down and was always a threat.

"I am always happy with him because even if he does not score he makes assists and we need players like that."

Chelsea currently top the Premier League, with a three-point cushion over second-placed Everton.

Di Matteo’s side have picked up 16 points from their six games and are one of three sides still unbeaten in the English top flight.

Chelsea’s next match though sees a break from Premier League action, with a Champions League trip to Denmark to face FC Nordsjaelland on Tuesday evening on the menu.
