Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets is wanted by Russian champions Zenit St. Petersburg, according to Spanish daily AS.

Zenit completed a big money swoop on Portuguese football this summer, signing midfielder Axel Witsel from Benfica for €40M and striker Hulk from FC Porto for a similar amount.

relatedNewsStory The transfers showed a side determined to, and with the means to, compete at the very top of the European game.

But Luciano Spalletti’s men have not finished shopping just yet and are now looking closely at Busquets.

Zenit would love to tempt the 24-year-old to Russia, though it appears a difficult operation.

The midfielder is Barcelona through and through and considered a key member of the Catalan side’s engine room.

However, Zenit will hope a substantial bid could cause the Blaugrana to consider parting with Busquets.

It remains to be seen though whether the Spaniard would welcome a switch east.
