Hamburg’s Rafael van der Vaart Concerned Over Fitness for Stuttgart Clash

Thursday, 18th October, 2012

Rafael van der Vaart fears he may miss Hamburg’s Bundesliga clash against Stuttgart at the weekend.

The attacking midfielder played a key role for Holland in the country’s 4-1 victory over Romania in 2014 World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.

Van der Vaart scored one goal and provided another in an impressive Oranje win, but the evening ended on a sour note for the 29-year-old, who was forced off with 13 minutes still on the clock after picking up an injury.

"I have pain in my groin area", Van der Vaart told German daily Bild.

"I hope to play in Sunday’s game, but it will be tight", he added.

Van der Vaart has helped Hamburg to arrest an alarming slide and start to climb the Bundesliga table since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bundesliga club splashed out €13M on transfer deadline day to re-sign the player they sold to Real Madrid in 2008.

Hamburg have won three of their last four Bundesliga games, with one being a famous 3-2 victory over champions Borussia Dortmund.

Thorsten Fink’s men currently sit eighth in the standings.
