Real Madrid have suffered a blow after tests indicated that Gonzalo Higuain is looking at a spell of 21 days on the sidelines.

The Argentine striker picked up a hamstring injury against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday, being forced to leave the pitch after 24 minutes, replaced by Jose Callejon.

Higuain instantly clutched his hamstring in real discomfort and tests have now revealed it is torn.

It was initially believed that the forward could return to action quickly, but now he is looking at 21 days out of action.

This means Higuain will not be available for Real Madrid’s La Liga clashes against Levante, Athletic Bilbao and Real Betis.

He will also miss Los Blancos’ Champions League match against Manchester City.

Higuain is now focusing on returning for Real Madrid’s derby against Atletico Madrid at the start of December.

relatedNewsStoryThe news is a blow to boss Jose Mourinho, who has also been without Karim Benzema due to injury.

The Frenchman is expected back soon though, with every chance he may be back in action at the weekend.

However, should Mourinho not wish to rush Benzema back, Cristiano Ronaldo may be handed the main striking role.
