Zlatan Ibrahimovic has praised Steven Gerrard, while admitting he would like to see the midfielder playing for one of Europe’s biggest clubs outside England.

Ibrahimovic will come face to face with Gerrard this evening when Sweden host England in an international friendly in Stockholm.

The match will also see England captain Gerrard win his 100th cap.

However, the midfielder will then return to the club he has been loyal to throughout his career, Liverpool, and at which he has been deprived of Champions League football in recent years. It is also likely that Gerrard will end his glittering playing spell without having ever won a league title, unless Liverpool can undergo a remarkable transformation before he hangs up his boots.

For Ibrahimovic, who has turned out for European powers Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and AC Milan, before signing for Paris Saint-Germain this summer, Gerrard is a truly magical player, who should consider moving to a major non-English club.

"He is a fantastic player, one who has been loyal to his club and won major trophies with his club", the Sweden striker was quoted as saying by Expressen.

"I think he is a great team-mate for them to have in their team. He feels more like an international player than an English player.

relatedNewsStory"English players have a big heart, fight and are very aggressive. Gerrard feels more international, he has more skills than a normal player.

"Every time we meet, the coach says to look out for Steven, he is a player who can make a difference.

And Ibrahimovic urged Gerrard to think about a switch.

"Liverpool are a great club, but I would love to see Steven at a major international club.

"It would be good for England if more players went abroad and showed what they can do in a different league."
