Former Ajax forward Jari Litmanen has stated that he would welcome the opportunity to return to the Amsterdam club in some capacity.

Now 41 years old, Litmanen, who is considered the greatest player Finland has ever produced, and was last in action for HJK Helsinki in the Finnish top flight, has not ruled out once again gracing the pitch.

But an offer from Ajax, where he enjoyed two spells, the first between 1992 and 1999 and the second between 2002 and 2004, could change all that.

"If Ajax were to ask me to do a specific role, then I am certainly open to that", Litmanen told NUsport.

"Whether I would say yes, I don’t know. Maybe I’ll do something for Finnish football."

The forward did raise the possibility of continuing his career though, insisting he feels fit and well.

"I feel fit and I still find football fun.

"Maybe I’ll have another year or maybe I’ll do something else."

Litmanen enjoyed a glittering playing career, turning out for the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool. He also won an impressive 137 caps for Finland at international level, but never got the opportunity to grace a major finals tournament.
