Roma sporting director Franco Baldini has ridden to the rescue of veteran coach Zdenek Zeman, blasting that the Giallorossi boss will not be sacked if the side lose against Torino.

Zeman’s men host Torino in Rome on Monday evening and are looking to bounce back from losing the Rome derby to Lazio last weekend.

The 3-2 defeat was Roma’s fifth of the season and concerns are growing that the side’s ambitions of making a push for a Champions League spot may be a bridge too far for the veteran boss.

Roma are already ten points behind second-placed Inter, despite just 12 games having been played this season.

But Zeman has been backed to carry on.

"The match against Torino is not the last chance for Zeman. Roma can redeem themselves with this manager", explained Baldini to Rai Sport.

"We are convinced that he and the team are able to rise up."

However, Baldini did not try to hide his disappointment with results so far.

"No one can deny that results so far have been disappointing, but we do not think we took a gamble by choosing Zeman."
