Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the club’s greatest ever players.

Ronaldo turned out for the Red Devils between 2003 and 2009, before being sold to Spanish champions Real Madrid for a world-record £80M.

The Portuguese loved life at Old Trafford, but had a burning desire to fulfil his boyhood dream by playing for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo will be back in Manchester this week, when he flies in with Real Madrid to face Manchester City in the Champions League, and Ferguson has been reflecting upon the talent he used to have at his disposal.

And the legendary manager believes Ronaldo bears comparison with the very best stars Manchester United have ever had.

"He’s an unbelievable player", Ferguson told his club’s official site.

"One of the best, no doubt about that", he continued.

The Red Devils boss also added that he keeps in touch with Ronaldo, who he is sure looks out for his old club.

"I speak to Cristiano quite regularly. He’s always available to talk to, and he’s always wishing us well.

"I think our result is the first one he looks for, no doubt about that."
