The Ukrainian Football Federation (FFU) have voted to open talks with former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp about taking over as national team coach.

The FFU were meeting to discuss appointing a new national team boss and during the debate Redknapp was put forward as a possibility – and garnered overwhelming support.

The former Tottenham Hotspur boss is now set to be approached to discuss the job.

"In my opinion, Redknapp will have high authority on players of the national team", announced FFU press secretary Mikhail Fomenko in a statement after the meeting had concluded.

"He has enough experience being a coach and ability to motivate football players", he continued.

"In all teams headed by Redknapp, the quality of game and significant progress had been quickly improved. For today, he is one of the best of British coaches."

Whether Redknapp is willing to discuss taking over as Ukraine boss remains to be seen, but the Englishman has been out of work since being sacked by Spurs over the summer.

Redknapp has been offered a number of positions, but has so far not been tempted to return to the game.

The FFU were recently keen on appointing former player Andriy Shevchenko as coach, but the ex-AC Milan striker rebuffed their advances.
