Liverpool want to snap up Borussia Dortmund winger Kevin Grosskreutz, according to German daily Bild, and have an ally in their quest.

Grosskreutz has recently forced his way back into Jurgen Klopp’s starting line-up at Dortmund and is expected to feature for the Bundesliga champions in this evening’s Champions League clash against Ajax.

Liverpool have been alerted to the fact that the 24-year-old is admirer of the English Premier League, with the German quoted as saying to Bild: "If someday I continue my career abroad, the Premier League is the best choice.

"I really like English football."

The Reds also boast one of Grosskreutz’s friends, in the form of midfielder Nuri Sahin; the winger keeps in contact with the Turkish midfielder, with whom he played at Dortmund until Sahin jumped ship for Real Madrid in 2011. And the hope is that Sahin could convince Grosskreutz to move to Anfield.

However, tempting Dortmund to sell and Grosskreutz to head to Liverpool looks a tough task for the English giants.

Klopp continues to rate Grosskreutz as an important part of his project at the Ruhr giants, while the winger himself is also fully committed to the Bundesliga champions.

Grosskreutz is under contract with Dortmund until 2014, though he is believed to be ready to pen an extension and has little intention of forcing a move away from the club, as Japanese schemer Shinji Kagawa did this summer, when joining Manchester United.

This season Grosskreutz has appeared in eleven Bundesliga games for Dortmund, while also featuring three times in the Champions League.

He has yet to find the back of the net though; he scored eight goals for Dortmund last season.
