Sven-Goran Eriksson is expected to be named as the new coach of 2.Bundesliga side 1860 Munich later this week.

According to Swedish daily Expressen, negotiations between the former England manager and 1860 Munich are now in their final stages, with a two-year contract on the table for Eriksson.

The 64-year-old has met with 1860 Munich’s owner, Hasan Abdullah Ismaik, in Abu Dhabi to discuss taking charge and is keen on the challenge.

1860 Munich are firmly in the shadow of their illustrious neighbours Bayern Munich, but are keen to return to the Bundesliga.

The club share the Allianz Arena with Bayern Munich, but on the pitch their fortunes could not be more different.

Eriksson took in his prospective new club’s match against Union Berlin on Saturday, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

The Swede is also expected to be present tomorrow when 1860 Munich host Paderborn.
