La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid are pondering a January transfer window move for midfielder Esteban Granero, according to Punto Pelota.

Granero currently turns out for English Premier League side QPR, having made the move to Loftus Road over the summer from Real Madrid.

However, QPR have struggled at the foot of the English top flight and have shipped out the manager who signed the Spaniard, Mark Hughes, replacing him with the wily former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp.

It remains to be seen whether Redknapp would be open to allowing Granero to head back to Spain next month, or whether the FA Cup-winning manager sees the midfielder as a vital part of his Rs’ unit.

Atletico Madrid are enjoying a fine season in La Liga and sit second, ahead of Real Madrid.

Diego Simeone’s men did lose the Madrid derby at the weekend though, allowing Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid to close the gap to five points.
