AC Milan are considering signing a replacement for midfielder Nigel de Jong in next month’s transfer window.

The Rossoneri have suffered a blow with the news that De Jong has damaged his Achilles tendon and is looking at a six-month spell on the sidelines.

The news means Milan are now short of a top notch defensive midfielder and president Silvio Berlusconi has admitted that the January transfer window may have to be used to bring in someone to fill in for the former Manchester City man.

"We are disappointed and it really is a shame for De Jong", the Milan supremo told Sky Sport Italia.

"We are looking at out options to enter the market, if it is needed."

De Jong joined Milan in the summer from English champions Manchester City.

The Dutchman has made 12 appearances in Serie A so far this season, scoring one goal.

For coach Massimiliano Allegri, who is plotting Milan’s rise up the Serie A standings, losing De Jong will be a big miss.

Milan are seventh in Serie A, having won 4-2 at Torino at the weekend.
