AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia believes that Mario Balotelli would make "a big difference" to the Rossoneri’s fortunes this season, were he snapped up from Manchester City.

Milan have struggled to fight for the title this year, with the shipping out of a number of stars over the summer proving too much for the side to handle.

Undoubtedly Milan’s biggest loss was Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who finished as top scorer in Serie A last season, but was sold to Paris Saint-Germain over the summer.

While youngster Stephan El Shaarawy has stepped up to play his part, the Rossoneri have failed to really replace Ibrahimovic – but Balotelli could do the job.

The Italy international is currently enduring a difficult time at English champions Manchester City and saw his performance in yesterday’s Manchester derby criticised by manager Roberto Mancini.

Balotelli has been linked with a return to his homeland and to Milan, which shot-stopper Amelia would most certainly welcome.

"Balotelli is a great player, definitely in a different category", Amelia told Radio Sportiva.

"I do not know what will happen in the transfer market, but he is one who knows how to make a difference."

And Amelia noted Balotelli’s current situation at Manchester City.

"He is playing very little and maybe this will affect his future.

"The rest is up to what choices the club make."

Milan have risen up to seventh in the Serie A standings after recording an impressive 4-2 victory over Torino at the weekend.
