Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to be linked with making a move for out-of-favour Inter playmaker Wesley Sneijder, according to Italian daily Gazzetta dello Sport.

Sneijder looks set to leave Inter during next month’s transfer window after refusing to sign a new contract with the club.

Inter’s proposal would have seen the 28-year-old take a wage cut from €6M per year to €4M per year. However Sneijder, already under contract until 2015, is understandably reluctant to see his pay packet slashed.

The Nerazzurri have omitted the Dutchman of late, with coach Andrea Stramaccioni claiming that he has many quality options to choose from in midfield.

As a result Sneijder has made just five appearances in Serie A so far this season.

He has been linked with Russian sides Anzhi Makhachkala and Zenit St. Petersburg, while Manchester United are also confirmed fans of the midfielder.

Recently Paris Saint-Germain were mooted as having joined the race, with sporting director Leonardo having lodged an enquiry, although coach Carlo Ancelotti is cool on the player’s potential arrival.

Now it seems Andre Villas-Boas’ Tottenham are prepared to make a move for Sneijder.

The Holland international could help the club to replace some of the creative guile lost over the summer, when Luka Modric left for Real Madrid and Rafael van der Vaart departed for Hamburg.

Should Sneijder not get the move he wants in January, a top sports lawyer has suggested he could terminate his contract with Inter and walk away from the Nerazzurri as a free agent.
