Liverpool have added Paris Saint-Germain striker Guillaume Hoarau to their list of potential transfer targets as concerns over costs mount at Anfield and in a development which could see them going head-to-head with rivals and neighbours Everton.

The Reds are desperate to sign another striker in next month’s transfer window and have been strongly linked with Chelsea forward Daniel Sturridge, with some quarters even suggesting the deal is all but done.

However, Liverpool are operating on a tight budget which has, according to French magazine Le 10 Sport, caused them to look closely at Hoarau.

The English Premier League outfit have studied the French market and assessed both Lyon’s Bafetimbi Gomis and Marseille’s Loic Remy – however both are much more expensive options than the PSG hitman, who only has six months left on his contract at the Parc des Princes and is out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti.

Liverpool would though most likely have to rival Everton for the Frenchman.

The Toffees have long had Hoarau on their wanted list and have been consistently linked with trying once again for his signature in January.

That could put Hoarau in the position of having to choose between Liverpool and Everton.

The 28-year-old has made just six appearances in Ligue 1 this season and five have come from the bench.

It does seem his time at PSG is fast approaching its end, especially with him having been omitted from the club’s winter training camp.
