Veteran German defender Christoph Metzelder has admitted that moving to play in the MLS is something that would interest him.

The centre-back is out of contract with current club Schalke during the summer, at which time he will look to move away from Gelsenkirchen.

And heading for the MLS is certainly something the former Germany defender would consider, with the summer being when he will make his next move.

"An experience in the MLS would be very interesting for me and something new in my life", Metzelder was quoted as saying by Calcio Mercato.

"I will leave Schalke at the end of the season.

"I do not think they want to offer me a new contract and the team have very interesting young players in my role."

Metzelder first rose to prominence at Borussia Dortmund, before leaving the Bundesliga to sign for Real Madrid in 2007.

He struggled to make an impression in Spain though and returned home to join Schalke in 2010.

At international level the defender won 47 caps for Germany.
