Former Genoa, Napoli and Palermo manager Gianni Di Marzio believes that Liverpool are a concrete possibility for Lazio defender Modibo Diakite.

Di Marzio, who currently works as a transfer consultant, having advised English Premier League outfit QPR, feels that the French centre-back is not minded to renew his contract with Lazio, which expires at the end of the season.

And he feels Diakite has the perfect qualities to be a success in England – and insists Liverpool do hold an interest in the 25-year-old.

"I came back from England last night and from what I understand, Liverpool could be a viable destination for Diakite", Di Marzio told Calcio Mercato.

"I think it is unlikely that the player can reach an agreement with [Claudio] Lotito [Lazio president, ed.].

"The Premier League, given his physicality, could be the right choice."

Diakite joined Lazio in 2006 from fellow Italian side Pescara.

Last season he clocked up 25 appearances for the Rome giants in Serie A, while he also played nine games in the Europa League, in a sign of his ability.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool will make a move to try and take the defender to England.
