Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has saluted loan star Ross Barkley for his performance in the weekend’s clash against Barnsley, insisting that "you could see what he’s got".

The afternoon ended in disappointment for Leeds as they went down to a 2-0 defeat at Oakwell, strugglers Barnsley having too much on the day.

But the performance of Barkley, who has joined on loan from Premier League outfit Everton, was a bright spot on an otherwise forgettable day.

And Warnock was not surprised, with the manager well aware of just what he was getting from the Toffees.

"I said to him afterwards that we’re not always like that", Warnock told his club’s official site.

"You could see why we brought him here and you could see what he’s got. He’s got good energy, he created chances out of nothing and he was the one bright spark of the team.

"I thought the Leeds fans could see that with the reception he got at the end. They appreciated him and what he brought to the team."

Next up for Leeds is a return to the FA Cup, with a trip to play Birmingham City on Tuesday evening.

If Warnock’s men can pass that test, their reward will be a home tie against Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur.
