Chelsea starlet Gael Kakuta has explained that he plans to fight for his career.

The young forward is currently on loan at Dutch side Vitesse, who work closely with Chelsea, and he is being handed the first team playing time to improve.

Kakuta has had loan spells before, with time at Fulham, Bolton Wanderers and Dijon. The spells with the Cottagers and the Trotters though did not hand him too much time to impress and the decision was taken to send him to Vitesse and the Dutch top flight for the current campaign.

Dijon, where Kakuta did shine, suffered relegation to France’s Ligue 2 last season.

After time getting used to his new club and reaching match fitness, Kakuta has now played a total of 13 games for Vitesse, scoring once and creating three.

He knows the importance of this spell in Holland, and has cut a determined figure.

"I want to fight for my career", he told Voetbal Primeur.

"I feel better now, things are going in the right direction.

"Especially physically. I’m getting fitter. I was not used to playing 90 minutes, my body responded.

"Now it is getting better.

"The next step was to recover my confidence and that is happening. I am growing in confidence every week.

"I am glad that I am playing. Last season I played too few games."

Kakuta arrived at Chelsea from French side Lens, being tipped for big things. The Blues have continued to believe in his potential but, at 21 years old, the time for his progression into a classy performer is surely coming.
