Manchester United have expressed an interest in Lille’s highly-rated full-back Lucas Digne, according to Mercato 365.

Digne is considered Lille’s brightest defensive prospect and the 19-year-old has been under serious observation by Sir Alex Ferguson’s men.

Just 19 years old, Digne has other admirers too, with the Red Devils’ rivals Liverpool recently mooted to be keeping an eye on his progress under coach Rudi Garcia at the Ligue 1 side.

While a swoop for Digne this month by Manchester United is considered unlikely, a battle for the young Frenchman is all set to break out during the summer transfer window.

Lille are reluctant to part with Digne, given how highly he is rated, but a large bid could prove impossible to resist, especially if they miss out on Champions League football for next season, which looks likely at present.

The defender is under contract with the 2011 French champions until 2017.

Digne has been a virtual ever-present for Garcia’s side this season, making 17 Ligue 1 appearances so far, while he also featured five times in Lille’s Champions League group campaign.
