Leeds United have suffered a blow ahead of their FA Cup clash against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend.

The Yorkshire giants had been hoping to field on-loan Everton star Ross Barkley, but the Toffees have refused Leeds permission to play the 19-year-old.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock has been gushing in his praise for Barkley recently, who is on loan at Elland Road until 12th February.

But the former Sheffield United manager will not be able to call upon him to face Andre Villas-Boas’ Spurs outfit.

"We asked the question, but it’s perfectly understandable that he won’t be available", Warnock told his club’s official site.

Barkley has made two appearances for Leeds since joining from Everton in search of more first team action.

While the news is a blow, Leeds have put Premier League opposition to the sword before this season, in their run to the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
