Jose Mourinho has admitted Real Madrid are focusing fully on the Champions League and the Copa del Rey, after concluding winning La Liga is beyond his side this season.

Barcelona went down to a shock defeat against Real Sociedad at the weekend, but despite Real Madrid beating Valencia 5-0 in an impressive display, the gap between the two clubs is still 15 points.

And so, Mourinho has changed the focus of his side.

"It is impossible to win the league. The difference is too big", Mourinho told French radio station RMC.

"Henceforth, we should focus on the Copa del Rey and the Champions League. But it should not become an obsession."

In La Liga, Real Madrid must still surely aim to overcome city rivals Atletico Madrid, who sit seven points ahead in second.

Finishing behind Diego Simeone’s men would be an embarrassment for Los Blancos.

However, a cup double of the Champions League and the Copa del Rey would make up for losing La Liga to Barcelona.

Real Madrid are in Copa del Rey action this evening, when they travel to Valencia with a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
