Powerful striker Pavel Pogrebnyak is wanted by both Rubin Kazan and Newcastle United, according to Russian daily Izvestia.

The 29-year-old currently turns out in the English Premier League with Reading, but could be on the move this month for the right price.

Both Rubin Kazan and Newcastle are thought ready to pay around €4M for Pogrebnyak, though it is Alan Pardew’s Magpies who have the advantage, with the striker wanting to remain in the Premier League.

Pogrebnyak’s agent Oleg Artemov would not be drawn on interest from specific clubs, but did confirm his client is happy in England, to the best of his knowledge.

"At the moment, Pogrebnyak is a Reading player and there are no active negotiations on his future in the current transfer window", he said.

"The last time that I talked with Pogrebnyak was a long time ago, but judging by the fact that he does not call, I think everything is going smoothly at Reading.

"On Newcastle, I cannot say, because I have not heard about it [interest]. As for a possible return for Pogrebnyak to Russia, I would prefer to not make any comment on this subject."

Pogrebnyak joined Reading during the summer, moving from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart and penning a contract running until 2016.

The striker has made 18 appearances for the Royals in the Premier League this season, finding the back of the net five times.
