Saint-Etienne have received a boost in their bid to keep highly-rated defender Kurt Zouma at the club beyond the summer.

The 18-year-old defender has put pen to paper on a new contract with the Ligue 1 outfit which runs until 2017.

Zouma’s quick progression has been noted by several of Europe’s biggest sides, with Chelsea and Manchester United both sending scouts to watch the defender in action earlier this season.

However, Saint-Etienne have persuaded Zouma to extend his stay.

And the starlet is more than happy to be doing so.

"This extension is a great vote of confidence in me from the club", he announced in a club statement.

"Saint-Etienne means a lot to me because it is where I was developed.

"This is a new step in my career. I still need to learn. I will also gain experience and I know that will help me to grow."

Zouma’s continued progression is sure to see his suitors keeping a close eye on his fortunes at Saint-Etienne and the French club may yet have to resist offers for him sooner rather than later.

The 18-year-old has so far made ten appearances for Les Verts in Ligue 1 this season.
