Carlo Ancelotti has explained that the reason Nene left Paris Saint-Germain was because he could not stand the competition for places in the squad.

Nene finished as Ligue 1 top scorer last season with PSG, but departed for Qatari side Al Gharafa in last month’s transfer window, having grown frustrated at a bit-part role at the Parc des Princes.

Ancelotti brought in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi to boost his striking options over the summer and that impacted Nene’s playing time.

And there was a disagreement with Nene in PSG’s Champions League match against FC Porto, which also weighed on Ancelotti.

"I have not had a problem with Nene, but he did something during the match against Porto. He was not happy going into this match", he told beINSport.

"The problem with Nene was the same as [Mamadou] Sakho: the competition.

"Some manage better than others. Nene wanted to play a lot, but sometimes you can play and other times you are on the bench."

Nene is now set to become one of the top players in the Qatar Stars League.

The Brazilian played nine times in Ligue 1 this season.
