Liverpool have identified Spartak Moscow striker Emmanuel Emenike as a summer transfer target as worries over keeping hold of Luis Suarez persist.

According to Russian daily Izvestia, the Reds are extremely keen on Emenike and have shortlisted him as a potential summer arrival, well aware of the difficulty they may have keeping hold of Suarez at the end of the campaign.

Liverpool have stumbled along inconsistently under new manager Brendan Rodgers this season, with Champions League football hopes for 2013/14 all but gone, while they are also on the verge of exiting the Europa League after suffering a 2-0 first leg defeat away at Zenit St. Petersburg.

Sitting ninth in the Premier League table, Liverpool may not have any European football to offer Suarez next season.

The Uruguayan is not short of suitors, with new Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola interested in taking him to the Allianz Arena, while Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain could get involved in any race for his signature.

Liverpool are now casting their eyes east and towards powerful Spartak Moscow striker Emenike.

The 25-year-old Nigerian, who has been a hit in the Russian capital since joining the club from Fenerbahce in 2011, has a number of admirers.

And Spartak Moscow coach Valery Karpin has admitted the club will look at an offer which meets their estimation of Emenike.

It is thought that a fee in excess of €12M would be needed for the player, particularly in view of the Nigeria striker’s contract running until 2016 at Spartak Moscow.
