Mario Balotelli Wanted Barcelona Move Says President Sandro Rosell

Thursday, 21st February, 2013

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has revealed that Mario Balotelli has tried to line up a switch to the Camp Nou on several occasions in the past.

Balotelli moved back to his homeland of Italy during last month’s transfer window, swapping Manchester City for AC Milan.

The Italy international is ineligible for the Champions League in Rossoneri colours, given his appearances for Manchester City earlier in the competition and thus he missed Milan’s 2-0 win over Barcelona last night.

Rosell took the opportunity of the two clubs meeting to reveal that Balotelli has been keen to play for the Blaugrana in the past.

"Balotelli has tried several times to come to Barca", Rosell told Sky Sport Italia.

"I do not know whether he would play well against a club for which he desperately wants to play."

The Spaniard though thinks Milan have pulled off a coup by signing the striker.

"I want to congratulate AC Milan for his transfer."

Rosell did not reveal however whether Balotelli had tried to move to Barcelona during his time at Inter or Manchester City.
