One of Philippe Coutinho’s former team-mates at Inter has backed the midfield talent to make the grade at Liverpool.

QPR goalkeeper Julio Cesar played with Coutinho at the Nerazzurri until he left last summer to head to the English Premier League.

It only took six months for Coutinho to follow him to England, completing a transfer from Inter to Liverpool, with much excitement attached to his signing at Anfield.

Coutinho’s slender frame has led many to speculate on whether he can make the Premier League grade. But Cesar has no doubts and is also crossing his fingers for the 20-year-old given how much he likes him.

"I hope he can do well in a Liverpool shirt", the goalkeeper told Tutto Mercato.

"I send him by best wishes for his new adventure at Liverpool.

"I am convinced that he will prove his quality because off the pitch he really is a golden boy and he’ll be able to assert himself."

Cesar will have the chance to come face to face with his former Inter team-mate at the end of the season, when QPR travel to Liverpool for the final day of the Premier League campaign.

The Rs may need something from the clash to avoid the drop, and Cesar will be desperate for Coutinho to have an off-day if he plays.
