Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina insists he is happy with the club’s style of play under Brendan Rodgers and feels it will bring the Reds success.

Rodgers advocates an ultra-high possession-based style of football, which has been criticised in some quarters for the lack of incisive play and goals it produces.

Last season Rodgers’ old club Swansea managed an average of 1.15 goals per game in the Premier League using his methods, while his successor at the Liberty Stadium, Michael Laudrup, has the Swans on an average of 1.40 goals per game after 27 Premier League matches.

Reina however is happy with Rodgers’ philosophy, explaining it suits his game and also going on record as stating his belief that it can bring Liverpool success.

"If the players follow the philosophy, we’ll definitely become a great side – a difficult and strong side to beat and a competitive one", Reina told his club’s official site, backing his manager.

"There is no doubt that I am more involved with my feet than before, but so are the whole team.

"The amount of passes in every game is higher and higher compared to last season. It’s a different style and I am happy with it."

Liverpool have already scored more goals in the Premier League this season than they managed last year, with 49 bagged so far, compared to 47 in 2011/12.

They have though conceded only six goals less, meaning they will have to let in just five goals from their remaining eleven games to end up with a tighter defence than that enjoyed by Rodgers’ predecessor Kenny Dalglish.
