Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has promised that the Ruhr giants will splash the cash in the summer when the transfer window opens again.

Jurgen Klopp’s men have been left trailing in Bayern Munich’s wake this season and currently sit a huge 17 points behind the Bavarians, who are on course to take the Bundesliga title off Dortmund.

And Dortmund will do their best to respond, with money available to be spent on improving the strength in depth of Klopp’s squad, Watkze has promised.

"In the summer will invest considerably, in terms of [improving] the strength as well as the depth", Watzke told German TV channel Sport 1.

"We will have money to spend and a lot will happen."

The CEO promised though that Dortmund will not spend more than they can afford.

"We will only spend what we take in", he said.

Dortmund are next in action on Tuesday, when they host Shakhtar Donetsk in the second leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie. The first leg ended 2-2 in the Ukraine.
