Stephan El Shaarawy’s agent has revealed that his client was wanted by both Barcelona and Inter before he moved to AC Milan.

The striker was snapped up by Milan from Genoa in the summer of 2011 and has since gone on to make a big impact at the Rossoneri, really stepping up to the plate to replace the departed Zlatan Ibrahimovic this season.

But it could have been different for the 20-year-old if Barcelona or Inter had snared him before Milan came calling.

"There were many clubs after him", El Shaarawy’s agent Roberto La Florio explained to GR Parlamento.

"Inter wanted him, several English clubs wanted him and, if I remember correctly, Barcelona too.

"But Milan got in early."

El Shaarawy has scored 16 goals in Serie A so far this season and is well on course to break the 20-goal barrier.

He recently penned an extended contract running until 2018 with the Rossoneri, ending any doubt over his future.
