Atletico Madrid have announced that they have secured coach Diego Simeone on a new four-year contract.

The Argentine has been a huge success at the Vicente Calderon since taking over in December 2011, steering the club to win last season’s Europa League, while they also started the current campaign in fine fashion by winning the UEFA Super Cup.

Currently Atletico Madrid sit second in La Liga, ahead of rivals Real Madrid, while they are also in the Copa del Rey final, where they will meet Jose Mourinho’s men.

Now Simeone is staying for the long term, penning a contract to keep him at Atletico Madrid until 2017.

The Argentine enjoyed two spells with Los Rojiblancos as a player, the first from 1994 to 1997 and then from 2003 until 2005.

Securing Simeone for the next four years will be a big boost for the club.
