Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen believes his side are in the middle of an extremely tough week of games.
Andre Villas-Boas’ men beat Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday to win the North London derby – but that game was just the start of a tough run which includes a Europa League clash against Inter and then a Premier League game at Liverpool.
Vertonghen is delighted Spurs started the testing period in the right way by beating Arsenal, but still believes it is a tough run of matches.
"It’s a very tough week, but it’s a very tough year actually", he told the club’s TV channel.
"We’ve started the week very well.
"We needed this win [against Arsenal] and especially for the fans to be seven points clear [of them] is a nice feeling at the moment."
Spurs have given the Europa League full respect this season and boss Villas-Boas seems keen to win the competition, one he also enjoyed success in at former side FC Porto.
However, with a Premier League top four spot not yet secure, the Portuguese will surely also have one eye on the trip to Liverpool.
