Klaas-Jan Huntelaar will not rule out staying at Schalke for the rest of his career.

The prolific Dutchman had been widely tipped to leave Schalke at the end of the current season, as his contract was coming to an end in the summer.

But Huntelaar instead decided to pen a new deal running until 2015, by which time he will be nearly 32 years old.

And the Dutchman could even stay longer, until he hangs up his boots.

"It is possible that I will extend my contract with Schalke again", he told Sport Bild.

"I will be almost 32 [in 2015], I could still sign a new contract. It is possible that I could finish my career here."

Huntelaar and Schalke have had a difficult season so far.

The 29-year-old has managed just six goals in the Bundesliga, compared to 29 last season, while Schalke sit just sixth in the table and face a battle to book Champions League football for 2013/14.
