Liverpool defender Jose Enrique feels that Luis Suarez should get the vote for PFA Player of the Year ahead of Robin van Persie and Gareth Bale.

Suarez has been in superb form this season and has at times carried Liverpool on his own. So far the Uruguayan has 21 goals in the Premier League to his name, putting him top of the scoring charts.

But the former Ajax man is not the only player to have shone brightly in the English top flight, with Robin van Persie settling into life at Old Trafford with ease and firing Sir Alex Ferguson’s men almost certainly towards a 20th top flight title.

Bale too is in the midst of a fantastic campaign and is powering Tottenham Hotspur to a top four finish and Champions League football for 2013/14.

Enrique though would send his vote firmly in Suarez’s direction.

"Van Persie and Bale are on fire", he acknowledged to his club’s official site.

"Van Persie has been a very important player for Manchester United this season and Bale is doing very well – in the last few games, Spurs have won because of Bale’s goals.

"But Luis is my friend, so I would like him to win the Player of the Year award.

"Judging the award is really difficult because a lot of the time it depends on where a team is in the league and Tottenham and Manchester United are both in better positions than us. So it will be difficult for him. But, of course, I think he deserves it."

Suarez will face off with one of his rivals for the award on Sunday, when Spurs make the trip to play Liverpool at Anfield.
