Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that the Reds may not get their primary transfer targets this summer, but stressed he is putting in the work to make sure adequate alternatives are available.

Rodgers presided over a transfer shambles in Liverpool’s attacking department last summer, which left Luis Suarez as the only established striker for the first half of the campaign until Daniel Sturridge arrived in January.

Now the Liverpool manager has explained that the groundwork is going in so that the Reds can be much better prepared for the summer window.

"There is a lot of terrific work going on behind the scenes with the scouting department getting lists together", the former Watford manager explained to his club’s official site.

"Of course you have an ideal target, but you have to have three players and if one doesn’t come off you have to be comfortable with the other two.

"We are much better placed now than we were last summer."

And Rodgers is determined to bring in quality rather than quantity this summer, with adding talents like those who have arrived, such as Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho, the focus.

"It is quality we are after, not quantity", he said.
