A new-found "Synergy" with Lionel Messi could keep Barcelona striker David Villa from leaving in the summer, according to Spanish daily Marca.

It has been widely reported that Villa originally wanted to leave Camp Nou in the last January transfer window, citing his strained relationship with Messi and his limited opportunities in the starting line-up. Arsenal are believed to have offered €12M for the striker, but the Catalan giants would not broker his sale.

Before the January transfer window closed, Villa only started in seven league games for the Blaugrana.

But a recent understanding on the pitch between Villa and Messi in the last two games has seemed to have warmed the striker towards staying. Barcelona have recently clashed with AC Milan in the Champions League and Rayo Vallecano in La Liga – Villa scored in both matches.

It is believed that Villa is now having second thoughts about leaving, especially after his recent increase in playing time.

Villa and Barcelona have decided to put discussions on a possible transfer on hold until the end of the season, as each party see how the current campaign plays out.
