CSKA Moscow playmaker and prominent Japan international Keisuke Honda is the subject of serious interest from English Premier League side Everton, who have moved into pole position in the race for his signature, according to Calcio Mercato.

Honda’s form for the Russian club has been the subject of much praise this season, with the Japanese scoring nine goals and clocking six assists his 22 appearances in all competitions.

This has drawn the interest of the likes of Everton and Fiorentina. Honda was also linked with a move to Lazio during the 2012 January transfer window, but the sale failed to materialise.

But now it appears that the former VVV-Venlo starlet is closer to England than Italy, with Goodison Park his most likely destination.
