Manchester United left-back Alexander Buttner has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is delighted with the progress he has made at Old Trafford so far.

Buttner was snapped up by the Red Devils from Dutch side Vitesse last summer and has been earmarked as Patrice Evra’s eventual successor on the left side of the Manchester United defence.

The young Dutchman admits he has work to do to reach the level required, but insists he is learning every day, even if he has not quite featured in too many Premier League games.

And most importantly for Buttner, Ferguson is a happy man.

"Recently I had a conversation with the manager", the defender told Voetbal International.

"He is very pleased with my development", Buttner revealed.

"I am too. During the last few months, I have still been in the squad.

"I’ll surely get my chance and it is lovely to know that is the case."

The 24-year-old has made three appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United so far this season, while he also clocked up three starts in the Champions League and three in the FA Cup.
