Stoke City are set to offer PSV Eindhoven defender Erik Pieters the opportunity to play his football in England next season.

The Potters, who are currently fighting for their lives in the Premier League, are keen to snap up Pieters, according to Voetbal International, and the Dutch defender is already aware of interest from the club.

Pieters was targeted by Newcastle United in the summer of 2011, but the Oranje left-back eventually stayed put in Holland.

This summer though the situation is different, prompting PSV Eindhoven to consider offers for the player.

The 24-year-old’s contract with the Dutch giants expires in 2014, meaning that in a little over 12 months’ time he could move on a free transfer.

PSV Eindhoven are willing to sell and would settle for a fee of between €4M and €5M for Pieters, to realise some value from the defender.

The left-back has made 15 appearances at international level for Holland, but missed last summer’s Euro 2012 due to injury.
