Arsenal and Manchester City are chasing Borussia Dortmund wunderkind Mario Gotze, according to German sports magazine Kicker.

Gotze has taken the game by storm since bursting through into Dortmund’s first team, helping to inspire Jurgen Klopp’s men to two successive Bundesliga titles, while he is now firmly established as a key man in Joachim Low’s Germany squad.

Still just 20 years old, Dortmund have done their best to keep Gotze away from an army of suitors, from Real Madrid to Manchester United.

And the attacking midfielder has remained committed to the project in the Ruhr.

Interest in Gotze has not died though, with Arsenal and Manchester City exploring whether the German can be tempted to England this summer.

Manchester City sporting director Txiki Begiristain met with Volker Struth, the manager of the Cologne-based sports agency that represents Gotze, in mid-March.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is also attentive to Gotze’s situation.

It is believed that Gotze’s contract contains a release clause of €40M, which becomes active in June 2013.
